Your Most Common Orthodontic Questions Answered!

No matter what age you might be, the decision to start orthodontic treatment is one that has many questions. The team at Braces for Blalock, the premier orthodontist in San Antonio, TX, has the answers you need. In this blog post, we’ll answer some of the most common questions that parents ask us. It is our goal that with the answers to these questions, you will have all the information you need to make the right choice for yourself or your child.

Question 1 – How much do braces cost?

The cost of treatment depends on a number of factors, including the type of treatment desired as well as the complexity of the treatment. For example, invisible braces, also known as Invisalign cost slightly more than traditional braces. They do provide a more discreet look and are generally easier to maintain and keep clean. However they do require you to wear them for most of the day.  But regardless of the treatment option you choose, San Antonio Orthodontics, Dr. Keith Blalock offers all patients with flexible payment plans that make it very affordable to get the smile you’ve always wanted.

Question 2 – What should I eat while wearing braces?

What you can eat also depends on the type of treatment that you choose. If you are wearing traditional braces, we recommend that you stay away from hard foods and candy. These can be raw vegetables, hard breads, taffy and peanut butter.

However, if you are wearing Invisalign, you are free to eat whatever you’d like. This is because with Invisalign, you can remove the aligners while eating. However, don’t forget to thoroughly brush and floss your teeth before placing the aligners back on.

Question 3 – How do retainers work?

Your retainer works to help properly position your teeth into their optimum position after your braces come off.  Your teeth are constantly moving and shifting, so think of your retainers as a way to keep your teeth in the proper position while they become accustomed to their new alignment.

Wearing your retainer as instructed by Dr. Blalock, (usually overnight or around 8 hours a day) will reduce the chances of relapse and the need for additional treatment.
